AISWCD joined with the Illinois Stewardship Alliance on Wednesday, March 8th, 2023 to advocate for soil health and other conservation issues before lawmakers. More than 60+ volunteer advocates travelled into Springfield from all corners of the state to show their support for these issues. The highlight of the day was listening to a rostrum of passionate speakers at the Soil Health Rally that occurred in the Capitol Rotunda. Senior officials with the Illinois Department of Agriculture kicked things off and were then followed by new Senate Agriculture Chair Doris Turner (D-Springfield), who remarked on her commitment to soil health principles. State Representative Charlie Meier (R-Highland) spoke of his views on sustainability and how it has shaped how he thinks and farms. The day was capped off with a legislative reception hosted at the new AISWCD headquarters.
